Reimagining Lifelong Learning: A New Chapter Begins in Houston

We’re thrilled to share something new taking shape at the intersection of tradition, creativity, and community.

This month, Ted Weisgal (of Leisure Learning Unlimited) and I are coming together to host an open gathering — a collaborative effort between Ted’s long-standing commitment to lifelong learning and Forgn Studio’s vision for creative, connected education across Houston and beyond.

Our goal is simple but ambitious: to reimagine what lifelong learning can look like today. We’re inspired by the legacy of Leisure Learning Unlimited, a program that for decades gave Houston a space to explore, create, and grow — and we want to explore how that spirit can evolve in a new era of community-driven and digital learning.

This meeting will be our first open conversation, a chance to listen, brainstorm, and imagine the next chapter together.

My dear friends,

On Sunday, November 16, beginning at 3pm, Giorgio Villani and I want to welcome you to a meeting that will include some opening remarks and a group of roundtables plus feedback that we hope will lead to the recreation of a bigger and better lifelong learning program than what existed under the Leisure Learning Unlimited banner.

The location will be the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1504 Wirt Rd, Houston, TX 77055 — we’ll gather in the workroom.

About six weeks ago, Giorgio approached me with this idea. He wanted my input, thinking he was going to get a 30-minute overview. He had no idea how excited I was hearing his desire to pick my brain. As we talked and he shared information about his computer skills, the idea of creating an in-person and remote learning network — connecting students and teachers from all over the world — began to take form.

We joked about Amazon selling books and imagined doing the same for classes — but we didn’t laugh it off. Instead, we decided to start with you, the people who made lifelong learning thrive in Houston. That’s what we’ll do in two Sundays.

Our first conversation was exciting, and with your participation, we know this one will be too. This is only the beginning — and it all starts here.
